BDO Foundation Empowers Future Mentors in “Unlocking Entrepreneurial Potential” Training for MSME Capacity Building

February 19–21, 2025 – In its steadfast mission to uplift Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), BDO Foundation successfully hosted a dynamic and insightful Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop titled “Unlocking Entrepreneurial Potential: A Trainer’s Guide to Capacity Building for MSMEs.” Held over three days, the program gathered educators, development workers, and grassroots mentors committed to empowering local entrepreneurs through effective and sustainable enterprise development.

Unlocking Potential, One Trainer at a Time

This specialized TOT program was designed to build a pool of highly equipped trainers who will, in turn, guide MSMEs toward growth and sustainability. Anchored in real-world applications and participatory methods, the session focused on equipping trainers with tools and techniques to inspire entrepreneurial thinking, develop critical business skills, and foster innovation among aspiring and existing MSMEs.

Topics covered included:

  • Entrepreneurship mindset and leadership
  • Business planning and financial literacy
  • Market strategies for MSMEs
  • Coaching and mentoring frameworks
  • Tools for inclusive enterprise development

A Commitment to Inclusive Growth

The training reflects BDO Foundation’s long-term commitment to financial inclusion and inclusive economic growth. By investing in the trainers themselves, the foundation ensures that MSMEs—especially those in underserved communities—gain access to high-quality mentorship and capacity-building initiatives that match their needs and contexts.

“Our goal is not just to support small businesses but to create a culture of resilience, innovation, and self-reliance,” said a BDO Foundation representative. “Training the trainers is a vital step in multiplying our impact across the country.”

Strengthening MSMEs: A National Priority

In the Philippines, MSMEs make up 99.5% of all businesses, employing over 60% of the country’s workforce. However, many still face challenges in scalability, access to markets, and financial management. With programs like “Unlocking Entrepreneurial Potential,” BDO Foundation is bridging the gap—nurturing a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem through grassroots support and strategic capacity building.

Contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This initiative directly supports several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty, by helping MSMEs generate sustainable income;
  • SDG 4: Quality Education, through skill-based training and lifelong learning for entrepreneurs;
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting entrepreneurship, creativity, and formal employment opportunities;
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by empowering individuals from marginalized communities to build viable enterprises.

By aligning its programs with global development goals, BDO Foundation continues to foster inclusive growth and create long-term impact on both local and national levels.

Join the Movement

As the demand for localized, practical, and compassionate enterprise support continues to grow, BDO Foundation invites fellow advocates, educators, and organizations to partner in empowering MSMEs and building a brighter future for every Filipino entrepreneur.
